Since Superman’s first appearance, he and other Kryptonians have had many abilities. Although they have mostly been cut down to the main well known abilities, they have shown many more, often only a one time appearance. The Golden and Silver Age versions often had whatever ability the current story required, and this trend continued on for almost all interpretations. There have also been many times where Superman and other Kryptonians were given new abilities due to specific circumstances such as being effected by different solar radiations or forms of Kryptonite.

Early versions of Superman could move at nearly limitless speeds, and writers often had him easily traveling back and forward through time. However, modern versions of the character have had their speed level brought down considerably, causing him to lose this ability, mostly due to how overpowered it is. This ability is also typically left to characters like The Flash who able to do it thanks to the Speed Force. The Christopher Reeve iteration of the character was able to fly so fast he could reverse the earth’s rotation, causing time to also reverse.

To catch some thieves Superboy was able to shoot pink beams from his hands. This drew them towards him, lift them in the sky, and froze their bodies, making them unable to move. This power was never seen again, although it is somewhat similar to the energy beams used by Zod.
