George Reeves portrayed Superman/Clark Kent in the film Superman and the Mole Men, and later in the TV series The Adventures of Superman and has had minor roles in such classics as Gone With the Wind and From Here to Eternity.
In 1959, Reeves was found dead in his home in Bennedict Canyon. While the cause of death was a gunshot to the head, and officially ruled a suicide; controversy has brewed for years over foul play. This death led to the superstitious belief in a Superman Curse, whereby bad things are believed to happen to those who portray the Man of Steel.
