Helen Slater (born December 15, 1963 in Bethpage, New York) is an American actress, singer and songwriter. She was the first actress to play Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in live action, in the eponymous 1984 film. She went on to star in other films such as Ruthless People (1986), The Secret of My Success (1987) and City Slickers (1991) and appearing in TV shows including Seinfeld, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Supernatural, and The Young and the Restless.
In addition to Supergirl, she has also portrayed Lara Lor-Van in Smallville and the title character's foster mother Eliza Danvers in the television series Supergirl. She has also voiced the villainous Talia al-Ghul in Batman: The Animated Series and Martha Kent in DC Superhero Girls. A CGI recreated version of her Supergirl appears briefly in The Flash (2023).
