Perry White is the editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet.

Biography[]

When Superman started making news with his first appearances in Metropolis, Perry had his reporters seek out whatever information they can get from the Man of Steel in order to publish it. Lois Lane, who had a private encounter with Superman at her apartment, wrote the interview she had with him which made front-page news.

Superman II[]

Perry sends Clark and Lois on a vacation together to get a story for the paper. He is later knocked unconscious by General Zod when he was led to the paper by Lex Luthor along with Non and Ursa in order to lure Superman into a confrontation.

Superman III[]

Perry allows Clark to take a week's vacation to return to Smallville for his 15th high school reunion.

Superman IV: The Quest For Peace[]

During the brief takeover of the Daily Planet by Warfield Publications tabloid mogul David Warfield, Perry was replaced as the paper's editor by David's daughter Lacy. By securing a loan from the banks, Perry managed to buy back the stocks to the Daily Planet, releasing the paper from Warfield's grip and restoring editorial control back to Perry. He the printed a special edition announcing "WE'RE BACK!".

Trivia[]

  • Cooper's Perry was also fond of aphorisms such as "A good reporter doesn't get great stories — a good reporter makes them great." In the commentary track for Superman, director Richard Donner reveals that Cooper got the role because he had a passport, and thus was able to be on set in a few hours, after Keenan Wynn, who was originally cast, suffered a heart attack.
