Thanagarian Snare Beasts are giant spider-like aliens from the planet Thanagar.
Kevin Smith and Tim Burton's unmade movie Superman Lives was intended to include a monster called a "Thanagarian Snare Beast", which resembled a gigantic spider. The monster was created to satisfy the demands of producer Jon Peters, who insisted that Superman battle a giant spider. Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. asked Smith to change its name so they don't refer to it as a spider.[1][2]Smith discussed this more in a fan panel.
Kevin Smith later voiced a character in Superman: Doomsday who comments on Toyman's attack on the city, "Like we really needed [Superman] to bust up a mechanical spider, right? Lame!"
In the Supergirl second season episode "Supergirl Lives" (which was written by Kevin Smith), the snare beast was referenced by Mon-El.
In the 2023 film The Flash, a Superman variant (Nicolas Cage) fights a Thanagarian Snare Beast. It has glowing tendrils that extend from its mouth which assist in projecting its young at its prey.
