The Supergirl from Krypton is a silver age comic book story, which features the first appearance of the kryptonian version of Supergirl.
Story[]
Superman discovers a rocket ship which has landed near Metropolis. However, when he arrives, he discovers a Kryptonian girl inside, who's already dressed in a costume similar to his! She tells her story, revealing that she is the daughter of Zor-El and Alura, from Argo City, which survived the initial destruction of Krypton but which later succumbed to Kryptonite poisoning, forcing her parents to send her to Earth.
Remake[]
- Main Article: The Supergirl from Krypton (Post-Crisis)
A post-crisis adaptation of this story appeared in the pages of Superman/Batman. In this updated story, Kara's ship lands in Gotham Harbor, and is instead found by Batman. The two heroes try to determine if she's telling the truth, or if she's a threat. Meanwhile, Darkseid wants her, and will stop at nothing. This reintroduced the Kryptonian supergirl to the modern age.
Continuity[]
- This story was the second time Superman met a Supergirl, the first one being Super-Girl, a being wished into existence by Jimmy Olsen in The Girl of Steel.
- In the Modern Age continuity, Superman would meet several different Supergirls, including Matrix/Linda Danvers, Cir-El, and the pre-crisis version of the character, before finally meeting Kara Zor-El in the modern age version of The Supergirl from Krypton.
- This story marked the beginning of Supergirl as a regular character in the Superman universe. It also launched a series of backup stories in Action Comics about her, which would later become a full comic book, "Supergirl".
